We Review Bar Soaps, So You Don't Have To
There are thousands of bar soaps on the market. Most of them make big claims — natural, moisturizing, eco-friendly, antibacterial, good for sensitive skin. Almost none of them are held accountable for those claims.
That's what Bar None Reviews is here to fix.
We are an independent soap review site. No brand pays us for coverage. No product is sent to us for free. Every bar we review is purchased at retail, at regular price, by us. If a soap earns a high score here, it earned it.

**What we review — and how**
Every bar soap we review gets scored on three pillars that we think actually matter:
**Ecological** — Is this bar good for the planet? We look at ingredient sourcing, packaging, biodegradability, brand practices, and how long the bar lasts. A bar that dissolves in a week creates more waste than one that lasts two months.
**Economical** — Is this bar actually good value? We don't just look at shelf price. We calculate cost per wash — the only number that tells you what you're really paying. A $12 bar that lasts 80 washes costs less per wash than a $2 bar that lasts 20.
**Good for you** — Is this bar safe and effective? We cross-reference every ingredient against the EWG Skin Deep database. Parabens, synthetic fragrance catch-alls, artificial dyes, triclosan — all flagged, all penalized. We also test lather, rinse feel, and real-world skin performance.
Each pillar is scored out of 100, converted to a score out of 10, then blended into a final rating. Our verdict tiers:
🟢 Bar None Best — 8.5 to 10 — Exceptional across all three pillars
🟢 Recommended — 7.0 to 8.4 — A solid bar worth buying
🟡 Fair — 5.0 to 6.9 — Acceptable, but with real trade-offs
🔴 Skip it — 0 to 4.9 — Fails on at least two pillars

**Five reviews. Ten days. Starting now.**
To kick off Bar None Reviews, we're publishing five reviews over the next ten days — chosen to cover the full spectrum of what's on the market. A drugstore staple. A mass-market giant. A budget classic. A premium handmade bar. And one that we think you should put down and never pick up again.
Here's what's coming, and a first look at where they land:
**Dr. Bronner's Pure-Castile Peppermint** — the eco darling that's been on shelves since 1948. Does it deserve its reputation?
Overall score: 8.7 / 10 — Bar None Best ✦
**Lush Sleepy Shower Bar** — handmade, naked packaging, lavender and oat milk. Beautiful on paper. But is the price justified?
Overall score: 7.9 / 10 — Recommended
**Dove Beauty Bar** — one of the best-selling personal care products in history. The moisturizing claims are everywhere. We put the ingredient list to the test.
Overall score: 6.4 / 10 — Fair
**Irish Spring Original** — the green bar. The waterfall ads. An American institution. Under our three-pillar lens, it's a more complicated story.
Overall score: 5.8 / 10 — Fair
**Dial Antibacterial Gold** — the original antibacterial bar. Still on shelves in 2026, still containing triclocarban, still making claims the FDA has effectively rejected. Our lowest score in this opening set.
Overall score: 4.9 / 10 — Skip it
